The Old Towne District Improvements will include new sidewalks/multi-use paths, new traffic signals, intersection upgrades, and improved bus shelters. Below is a map of all the improvements planned for the area.

Charlestowne/Donahue Drive at Old Towne Road

Improvements includes:

• Re-align Charlestowne Drive directly across from Donahue Drive to improve safety
• Upgrade to decorative traffic signal
• Connecting existing sidewalks along Old Towne Road
• Addition of brick stamped crosswalks at the intersection
• Extension of the left turn lane
• No negative impacts to residents of Charlestowne Estates

Amberly Road at Sam Rittenberg Boulevard
and Sumar Street

Improvements to Amberly Road at Sam Rittenberg include:

• Installation of a decorative traffic signal at the intersection of Amberly Road and Sam Rittenberg Boulevard
• Addition of sidewalks and a multi-use path along Sam Rittenberg Boulevard
• Addition of brick stamped crosswalks at intersection
• Landscaping along Sam Rittenberg Boulevard

Improvements to Sumar Street include:

• Constructing a sidewalk extending from Sumar Street to connect Sam Rittenberg Boulevard to Orange Grover Road
• Widening of Sumar Street for turn lanes, landscaping, and on-street parking
• Brick stamped crosswalks
• Installation of multi-use paths along Sumar Street and Old Towne Road
• Coordinating with the City of Charleston on access to the Northbridge Gateway Re-development site
• Improved bus stop and shelter

The Alternate Merge and Orange Grove Road
at Sam Rittenberg Boulevard

Improvements at the alternate merge and Orange Grove Road at Sam Rittenberg Boulevard include:

• Trimming / modifying the existing landscaping at merge to improve sight distance
• Addition of a left turn lane on Orange Grove Road
• Elongating the right turn lane on Orange Grove Road in front of the CVS
• Maintain left onto Northbridge Drive and access to surrounding businesses
• Installation of decorative traffic signal
• Installation of brick stamped cross walks
• Improved sidewalk connectivity and multi-use path installation along Sam Rittenberg Boulevard
• Landscaping along Sam Rittenberg Boulevard
• Will leave the tree canopy on Orange Grove Road intact
