The Old Towne District Transportation Improvements project began as the SC 7 & SC 171 Intersection Improvements project. The goal of the intersection improvements included removing the alternate merge of Sam Rittenberg Boulevard (SC 7) and Old Towne Road (SC 171). After a public information meetings in 2018 and 2019, the county received over 1000 comments from citizens. The majority of responses did not support any of the presented alternatives. In addition, public feedback focused on the need to improve access to local businesses and neighborhoods along the corridor.
